Dalmatia - Šibenik

The delightful region of Sibenik is host to none other than the Krka National Park and Skradinski buk, the largest in a set of 3 waterfalls along the river Krka. There are 222 species of birds including osprey, eagles and the peregrine falcon.

Situated in northern Dalmatia, Biograd na moru (the white town on the sea) is a good base for cruising the Kornati archipelago. Entrance to the harbour is on the WNW between two breakwaters. The old town with many restaurants, bars and sights is situated around the harbour. Due to the One Design fleets available, Biograd na moru is a very popular destination for match racing and regattas.

Seven miles west of Sibenik, Kaprije is a small island measuring only 2.7 square miles. Its main industry is olives, grapes, and capers, after which it is named. There is a town quay at the end of the deep inlet on the west of the island which has enough laid moorings for about 10 yachts to go stern to.

ACI Marina Jezera, Murter is situated on the island of Murter which is connected to the mainland by a bridge, 1 hour's drive away from Zadar or Split airport. 1 hour of sailing takes you to the Kornati National Park. Jezera is repeatedly the proud recipient of Croatia's urban landscaping Blue Flower award and is a Blue Flag bay. Primosten is a pretty, medieval town between Sibenik and Trogir. It became connected to the mainland by a drawbridge after having protective walls built to stop the Turkish invasions in 1542. The drawbridge was then made more permanent by a causeway. There is a beautiful view from the church of St. George built on top of a hill in 1485 and restored in 1760. Primosten is renowned for its much photographed beautiful vineyards, and its beaches are rated among the top 10 in Croatia. Mooring with electricity and water is available on laid moorings at the town quay or on mooring buoys in the bay.

D Marina Sibenik is situated in a natural port at the mouth of the Krka, where the river meets the sea. Krka is the river upon which 3 spectacular sets of waterfalls, most notably the Skradinski buk, lay. An 8 mile trip up the river will take you to Skradinski buk and the ACI Marina. A must see in Sibenik and listed on UNESCO's list of World Cultural Heritage is the 15th century Cathedral of St. Jakov, the construction of which lasted a 100 years. Sibenik is well known for its cultural heritage with a well preserved medieval town with 4 fortresses.

8 miles up the river Krka from Sibenik, Skradin is famous for hosting the largest set of three waterfalls on the river, the Skradinski buk in the Krka National Park. There are three cycle paths that lead to best of Skradin's gems: Bribirska glavica, Skradinski buk and Lake Prokljan. The ACI Marina is easily accessible by sailing boats going up the river with the depth running at approximately 7 metres. Mooring is available overnight at the ACI Marina, the town quay or if the marina is full then at the coves opposite.
